Wow, I can't believe how time dose fly. I can't believe its is already October, and that there is only 248 days till the Remsen Relay for Life 2010... yikes!! Two weekends ago my team Angels of Hope was able to raise $330 for our first event. Not a bad start, but with a goal of $1500 this year its just a start. There are some other planed events (our toilet is coming back) but we have a small break right now. Still cant believe that we raised $1300 in June, that was just our first year we can only go up from here. So why have I started with the Relay talk now? Because the even that really kicked my butt into gear to fight cancer was the passing of my Aunt back in 2008 from Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). She was only 60 years old and this cancer was just to aggressive for her to win. IBC usually grows in nests or sheets, rather than as a confined, solid tumor and therefore can be diffuse throughout the breast with no palpable mass which can cause this to be misdiagnosed. Thankfully this is a rare cancer, but little is really known about IBC so research is needed to battle and hopefully cure this and so many other cancers. So ladies (and gentlemen, because you can get breast cancer too) self breast exams are important and if there is ever a question or concern talk with your doctors because breast cancer isnt all about mammograms and lumps.
